Who runs it
I'm Akshay Thakur. I build and maintain every calculator on Measure the Build. There is no editorial team and no affiliate desk rewriting manufacturer numbers into a softer answer. If a constant is wrong, that is on me — and the contact page is how you reach me.
I am not selling bags of concrete or a subscription. The site exists so someone standing in a yard or a jobsite aisle can get a quantity, see the arithmetic, and check it against a published source instead of trusting a black-box total.
Why it exists
Most “how many bags / sheets / boards” tools online share the same habits: they hide the working, they never show where a coverage rate came from, and they treat a trade rule of thumb as if it were printed on a data sheet. When an estimate is short, you find out at the store — or worse, halfway through a pour.
I started Measure the Build to reverse that. Every tool on this domain is meant to be checkable: intermediate steps on the page, physical constants pulled from manufacturer sheets or codes where they exist, and an honest label when a number is only a convention. If a value cannot be defended, it does not get silently invented to fill a field.
Relevant experience and review process
I have worked closely with construction builders on material quantities — how bags, boards, sheets, and related takeoffs are actually counted before a purchase order. That collaboration is what shaped these tools: show the arithmetic, cite the source, and leave judgment calls labeled instead of buried.
Every calculator is checked before it ships using:
- independent hand calculations;
- manufacturer documents or published standards;
- boundary and unit-conversion tests;
- whole-unit rounding tests; and
- documented handling of conflicting sources.
Coverage rates, bag yields, board widths, and similar constants live in a data layer with the source document, URL, and a verified-on date. Calculator pages render those sources in plain sight. Are the calculator results accurate enough to use for purchasing?
Yes — for estimating purchase quantities. Every constant (bag yield, coverage rate, board width) is pulled from a manufacturer data sheet or published standard and stored with a source URL and verified-on date. The arithmetic is shown on each calculator page so you can check it. Always add a waste allowance and confirm against product instructions before ordering.
Who checks the numbers before a calculator goes live?
Akshay Thakur runs independent hand calculations, tests boundary conditions and unit conversions, and documents how conflicting sources are resolved. There is no editorial team softening figures for affiliate reasons.
What happens when a source changes or a number is wrong?
The constant is updated in the data layer with a new verified-on date. The methodology page explains the full source hierarchy and how corrections work. If you spot an error, use the contact page and it will be investigated and corrected if confirmed.
Is this site affiliated with any product brand or retailer?
No. There are no affiliate links, no sponsored results, and no manufacturer relationships that influence the constants used in any calculator.
